HELPING SUSTAINABLY

Brielle Franckowiak

While exploring humanitarian work opportunities, one of the first questions on my mind was the sustainability behind it. Was I truly benefitting the community? Or was it a temporary solution to a larger problem- a solution appealing at first, yet harmful later on. That's why, last summer, I committed to working with HEFY: a group committed to sustainable humanitarianism.

That trip left me both deeply moved and inspired. It widened my perspective and helped me understand my own privilege and opportunities. I saw the value in education- something I'd always loved yet had never fully understood the doors it had opened for me. While speaking with a young teen in Zimbabwe, he confessed his desire for a degree and the challenges he faced in getting one. Not only did I realize how much I take for granted, but I realized that I wanted to do my part in making a change.

That's when I found Support for Zimbabwe. Originally started by a close friend of mine, Support for Zimbabwe focused on a cause close to both of our hearts: medical care for those without. By partnering with ZimbabWE Care, we're able to make an impact in communities without causing unintentional harm. Through distributing hygiene kits, we both prevent disease and improve the quality of life. At the end of the day, we all want to help those in need. By making the most of our funds, team, and resources, we hope to do just that.
